Dr. Kristel Yocom grew up in the Northwest Chicago suburbs. She lived in the Caribbean for over 2 years while attending Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. She then went to University of Tennessee and graduated in 2006. Growing up she always loved animals but it was really seeing the bond between her grandmother and her dog that inspired her career in veterinary medicine. Seeing how much love, joy and purpose a little dog could give someone gave her the drive to want to help people with their pets. She understands how they enrich our lives every day.
Dr. Yocom has worked in the Chicago suburbs for 16 years. Besides general practice she has also worked at emergency clinics and shelters. Second chance pets (rescues) and rescue organizations have always been a passion for her. She has worked with Adopt A Husky Rescue for over 15 years.
Dr. Yocom has a special passion for soft tissue surgery, ultrasound and pain management. She has been doing abdominal ultrasounds for over 15 years. She joined the Sutton Road team in March 2022 and it has been a great fit. She currently lives in St. Charles with her furry babies, a standard poodle named Gloria and 2 large cats – Poutine and Gandalf. She loves to travel and most things science fiction – conventions, books or movies. Her goal is to make sure that all the pets that come to see her are as happy as they can be, no matter how many cookies that takes!
Dr. Wanders grew up in Roselle, IL. She completed both her Bachelor of Science in Integrative Biology
and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees at the University of Illinois. Dr. Wanders initially joined
Sutton Road Animal Hospital right after graduating in 2011. She left the hospital in 2018 for 5 years to
pursue other opportunities and is so excited to come back and rejoin the team here at Sutton Road. It
truly feels like she is back home with her amazing work family.
Dr. Wanders has dreamed of being a veterinarian ever since she was a child and feels that our pets are
important members of our families. She has an interest in internal medicine and is especially interested
in promoting wellness through preventative medicine and client education.
Dr. Wanders currently lives in Carol Stream with her husband Mike and their cuddly cat, Sophie. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading, hiking, fishing,
and collecting antiques. She takes an annual trip to Tennessee and loves to explore the Smoky
mountains.
Office Manager
Shellie grew up in South Elgin and began working with animals as a volunteer at Anderson Animal Shelter at the age of 7. Always knowing she wanted to work with animals, she applied at the Veterinary Hospital her family always took their pets to. She started working at Sutton Road in 1999. First as a maintenance worker, then as a receptionist for 4 yrs and finally moving into her roll as a Technician and later onto co-office manager.
She moved to Sycamore in 2015 but loves the quiet drive to work. She is married to her husband Matt and they have their 2 kids, Mason and Nora. She has a Labrador named Chunk who loves playing and eating treats more than anything. In her spare time she loves cooking, bowling and hanging out with her family.
Laura grew up in Chicago and moved to the suburbs after marrying. She sold cars for 20 years and then became a stay-at-home mom for a few years before getting back to the working world. She started at Sutton Road in 2005, working as a receptionist and customer care representative. Laura loves interacting with clients and their fur babies and getting them scheduled for the care they need.
Laura is very involved in volunteering at the American Legion, Moose and Turners Club. She loves spending time with her adult children and her grand dogs Duncan, Storm, Winnie and her grand-cat Otto. She loves being outdoors, camping, fishing and biking. And in her spare time she likes reading, cooking, traveling, home projects, working on cars and selling things online.
